Both the Presa Canario and the Cane Corso are big dogs with a lot in common. The Cane Corso is a descendant of the Presa Canario and the Mastiff breed, also known as the Italian Mastiff. The Presa Canario is significantly larger overall than the Cane Corso. Presa Canario males can reach 26 inches tall and 150 pounds, and females can reach 25 inches tall and 110 pounds. A key feature unique to the Presa Canario is its cat feet! The Presa's toes are rounded and spaced farther apart, allowing for a longer, smoother stride unique to this breed.

Presa Canarios also have prominent facial markings. The breed will always have a black mask not exceeding the dog's eyes, and black nose, lips and eye rims.

Cane Corso Body Variations

Cane Corso is also a large breed, but overall smaller in weight than Presa Canario, although they are usually a bit taller! Cane Corso males are typically 25-28 inches tall and can weigh up to 110 lbs. Female Corso stands between 23-26 inches tall and can weigh up to 99 pounds. The Cane Corso's coat is bushier and coarser than the Presa and is only light brown.

Cane Corsos also have a different head shape, with a larger head that more closely resembles the structure of the Mastiff breed. This includes a more pronounced set of chins and a less plump lower lip than the Presa!

Presa Canario and Cane Corso are large, powerful dogs that require consistent leadership from their owners. It is imperative that future owners of either breed fully understand how to care for them safely! This includes considering the breed's personality and overall temperament.

The Cane Corso is a true working dog and a masterpiece of all trades! Originally bred for fighting, these large dogs have since been used for a variety of jobs including hunting, guarding, and even farm work. The Corso is a confident and intelligent breed that forms a strong and loving bond with a steady and consistent owner.

Unlike the Presa, the Cane Corso is great for children and other pets. They make great family dogs when properly socialized and trained.
